Google's chat tool is a great and fast means of communication. However, sometimes you do not want to receive notifications when, for example, you need to concentrate or because you have a day off. Fortunately, Google has expanded the functionality, so it is now possible to set a recurring schedule.
What is changing?
Within Google Chat it has been possible for some time now to set the 'Do not disturb' function, so that you no longer receive notifications from the chat. This was, however, only possible for a specific number of hours and you had to set this manually each time. Google Chat has now made it possible to set a pattern via the 'Do not disturb' option, where you indicate on which days and times you do not want to receive notifications from Chat by default.
Why is it important?
The new functionality gives you the ability to work without any distractions from Chat. By muting notifications or setting 'Do not disturb' automatically, it is possible to concentrate better during work, or not to be disturbed outside working hours.
How to use
- Go to Chat using Google Chat or your Gmail account.
- Click on your status at the top
- Select Do not Disturb and at the bottom choose Set a Do Not Disturb schedule instellen.
- Below 'Do not disturb schedules', click Create new schedule. Nieuw schema maken.
- Select the times to pause notifications and click Save.
You can create multiple schedules. The notifications are interrupted during each schedule.
The extension of the functionality is not yet available to everyone at the moment, but everyone should be able to use it before the end of the year.
And now, get to work undisturbed! 😉
