Space bar = Speak!

Space bar = Speak!

If you have a video meeting with several people, it is common practice to mute yourself. In order to be able to participate quickly, for example if you want to give a short answer to something, it is now possible to simply activate your microphone in Google Meet using the space bar. Much easier and faster than continuously navigating your mouse up and down to the Unmute button.

Activate the space bar option

Om van deze functionaliteit gebruik te kunnen maken, moet je deze eenmalig activeren in de instellingen van Google Meet.

  • Open a Google Meet session
  • Click the three dots and click on 'Settings'
  • Activate the option 'Push to talk'

How does it work?

When your microphone is muted in a meeting, you can instantly unmute yourself by holding down the spacebar if you want to talk. As soon as you release the space bar again, your microphone is muted again and others cannot hear any sound from your side.

This feature only works from within the active tab of your video meeting (so not if you're multitasking in another tab 😉).

Why use it?

It's the easiest way to quickly participate in an online conversation when your microphone is off. Especially if you have to give a short answer. Holding down the spacebar is easier than navigating the mouse to the microphone icon at the bottom of the Meet window.

At g-company, we are already using it to the max, have you tried it yet?
