Press release: Aafje chooses web-based workplaces

Rotterdam, 11 June 2020 – Today, Rotterdam-based care foundation Aafje officially chose for Google Cloud. With the help of Google Cloud Premier Partner g-company, all 6,500 employees will receive a ‘web-based workplace’ in the near future.

Quality of care and service is of paramount importance to Aafje. The bar is set high for the benefit of their customers, but also for their employees and volunteers. And they do this well: in 2019, Aafje was voted best employer. In order to maintain this position, continuing to innovate is a major focus for Aafje.

That is why Aafje is now taking a big step in the innovation process, by offering the so-called web-based workplace. To facilitate this, the choice fell on the technology of Google Cloud. Together with Google Cloud Premier partner g-company, Aafje will say goodbye to local software in the coming months, and their ICT environment will become easier to manage and more secure. Moreover, employees will soon be able to carry out their work anywhere, anytime and regardless of the device.

The first step in the process will be the switch to mail & calendar, then the file server will be migrated to Google Drive and in parallel, the rest of the architecture will be transferred to Google Cloud Platform. Chromebooks are already in use.

Peter Ploegsma, member of the Executive Board of Aafje: “Our choice for Google is mainly based on the simpler and more unambiguous way of working. Our employees have indicated what they find important, such as a one-time login, online document collaboration, faster and easier searches – especially on the intranet – and easier working from home. Google fits in well with this. We have every confidence in the cooperation with g-company to successfully implement this major change.”

David Saris, founder and managing partner g-company: “We are super proud of the fact that Aafje has chosen g-company and that we may further empower such a beautiful healthcare institution with the help of cloud technology.”

 About Aafje

Aafje wants to give people room to live their own lives. The life they prefer, because every person is unique. Regardless of whether they live at Aafje (temporarily), receive care from Aafje at home, work at Aafje, give their time voluntarily or entrust their loved ones to Aafje. These people and their stories form the basis for Aafje’s care. This can be seen in the Aafje film ‘My story continues’.
