Google Workspace is built on the cornerstones of productivity and collaboration. As true fans, we constantly want to try out new things. This also holds true for Google Sheets' Smart Chips.
How do Smart Chips work?
Tags called Smart Chips can be included right in Google Docs. Referencing other persons (with a Google account), files, dates, or calendar events is made very simple by them. Although they resemble hyperlinks, these chips in your page give you a ton of useful information when you hover over them, making them quite useful.
What's new?
Early 2022, Google Docs released its Smart Chips. Since October 25, it is now also possible to add Calendar Chips and Document Chips to a Google Sheet cell.
Reasons why you should use it
With the feature, adding and viewing files within spreadsheets is now simple and fast. Additionally, you can now easily add agenda appointments to a sheet so that the work document's agenda connections are immediately accessible.
Participants can check times and other meeting elements using the hovercard view while still having access to the agenda in the sheet.
How does it work?
The process is easy. The Smart Chip menu in the spreadsheet is activated by the "@" symbol.
You can perform the following if you want to add a document to a spreadsheet:
- Enter a file name or keyword first, then the @ symbol, into the cell,
or
- Navigate to Insert > Smart Chips > File Chip menu

If you want to add a calendar item, you can do so by:
- Typing the ‘@’ sign in any cell and search for your calendar events
or
- Te navigeren naar Invoegen > Chips > Evenementen
