Split table cells in Google Docs

Split table cells in Google Docs

Until recently, splitting cells in a table within Google Docs was not yet possible. Thankfully, Google has finally made this much-requested functionality available.

What is changing?

This update makes it possible to split table cells into a desired number of rows and columns in Google Docs. This allows 'subheader cells' to be created by splitting a cell under a 'header cell' into two columns.

Why is it important?

Due to the possibility to split a cell into a number of rows and/or columns, information in the table can be arranged better.

How to use it?

  1. Click right with your mouse on a Cell in a table
  2. Choose Split Cell
  3. Specify the number of columns and rows click
  4. Choose Choose split

We have of course been used to this function for years in Excel and Google Sheets, so it's very cool and useful that it is now finally possible in Google Docs!
