Apps Script Summer Class

  • g-company 50 Atoomweg Utrecht, UT, 3542 AB Netherlands (map)

click less, automate more

After last year's success, we're organizing the Apps Script Summer Class again this summer. With this training, we're aiming to help organizations understand and implement Google Apps Script, so they have to click less and can automate more.

An Apps Script Training, starting with an introduction to JavaScript and Google Apps Script, before delving deeper into scripting for the main Google apps. The Apps Script training is split into two modules, each covering one day.

The purpose is to deliver high quality and user-centric training to boost productivity with Apps Script. That's why we will limit attendees to a maximum of 20 persons per module.

You can choose to follow one module or both.

module 1 (day 1) - JavaScript and Google Apps Script: an introduction

Prerequisites: some programming experience and/or feel with programming. If not, it is advised to run through one of the many free online JavaScript courses.

  • intro into JavaScript (refresher)

  • quick run through the big building blocks of javascript

  • intro into Google Apps Script

  • creating your first real Google Apps Script(s), here we’ll expand the functionality of Sheets.

After this day you will be able to create a basic script on Google Apps Script, which connects to Google Sheets, works with data, and more. The day is a mix of lectures and exercises.

module 2 (day 2) - Google Apps Script: continued

Prerequisites: good knowledge of Javascript and basic knowledge of Google Apps Script

  • deeper dive into Google Apps Script

  • working with Drive

  • manipulate Forms

  • working with Gmail

  • working with URLFetch to get data from external services

  • small project

  • business automation : tying form - sheet - mail together

This day will provide you with the necessary building blocks to start automating processes within your organization and expanding the functionality of G Suite. The day is a mix of lectures and exercises.

G Suite is a powerful suite that offers really helpful tools and features. However, sometimes you might want to enhance these features, or automate repetitive tasks. This can be done with Google Apps Script.

This JavaScript-based scripting language allows you to use G Suite products like Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms in new and exciting ways. And it doesn’t stop there. Nearly every Google service, as well as any external service that allows REST calls, can be customized with Apps Script.

The Apps Script Summer Class is the ideal way to train 1 to 5 people in your company without a large impact on the day to day operations.

Anyone in need of Google Apps Script training. Ideal for:

  • people who are new to JavaScript, Google Apps Script and task automation via scripting

  • people who want to extend their knowledge of Google Apps Script

  • people who need refresher training

  • The training is given by our consultant Peter Roelant.

Please note: the Apps Script training will be primarily in Dutch (English is also possible should there be English participants).

about the trainer: Peter Roelant

"I have been an IT professional for 25+ years, trying to automate things to make sure IT works for us (instead of the other way around).

The aim for IT should be to make our lives easier, not more complex, a step which is often forgotten. Cloud-focused since 2010, and helping organizations to move and get the most out of their cloud services.

I'm looking forward to infecting you all with the scripting bug. Onward to a world with less clicking, but more thinking and automating!"
